ST. STEPHANS CATHEDRAL

ST.  STEPHAN FROM ALL AROUND

The cathedral and metropolitan church of St. Stephan is the main landmark of the city of Vienna and also the most important Roman Catholic Church in Austria, and has been archbishopric since 1722. It dominates the Viennese skyline as it has done for centuries. An obvious military target, it has endured two Turkish sieges, the Napoleonic bombardment, and in the latter stages of World War II the attentions of American bombers and Russian artillery. That it survived at all is a miracle, and has ensured it a special place in the hearts of the Viennese.

Generations of architects and master builders have laboured on the church edifice since the 12th century, which today uniquely represents the history of art over a span of eight hundred years.

I would love to give you an overview within ca. 45 min, or I initiate you into its mysteries during a 2 hours tour. Admission fee not included.

Hot tip: Change your point of view by touring the inside and outside of the cathedral‘s roof with me as well! Extra costs arise. Elevator available if required.
